We train leaders to utilize the necessary skills for communicating with employees that speak limited English, without the use of a translator.
In multilingual workplaces, specific strategies are needed to help leaders and their employees communicate with one another. In this training we’ll discuss the pros and cons of translation, and provide a thorough understanding of why it is more effective to communicate primarily in English as an organization. Part of the training is conducted in a foreign language, helping participants gain a deeper understanding and empathy for the challenges their non-English-speaking employees experience in the workplace. We will train and practice four strategies to communicate with someone that speaks a different language, and how to ensure understanding. This is delivered as a three-hour training session and can be onsite or virtual.
Learning effective communication strategies with non-English speakers is within reach! This course empowers leaders to build empathy for other cultures while equipping them with practical skills to communicate with employees who do not speak English. Leaders will learn how to help employees improve their English skills gradually through workplace engagement and by conducting business primarily in English. By the end of the course, supervisors will gain the confidence to communicate directly with their team members without relying on a translator, strengthening connections and fostering a more inclusive work environment.
Organizations that employ a multilingual workforce (or plan to), and wish to provide leaders with skills to bridge language barriers for effective communication can benefit from this training.
Multilingual Workforce came onsite for the Bridging Language Barriers training. The training was presented to team leaders, assistant supervisors, supervisors and managers. Cathy and Linda taught our team several strategies for communicating with employees who don’t fully understand the English language. The training was fun, interactive and engaging. The overwhelming response from everyone who attended was that they had key takeaways that they would incorporate into their communications with employees. This training gave us a better idea how to ensure understanding from non-English speaking employees.
What You Need to Know About the Bridging Language Barriers Training
In a multilingual environment, most workplaces utilize translation and bilingual supervisors as primary methods of bridging the language gap. Rather than relying on these methods, we teach leaders four proven strategies for effective communication, and how to conduct business primarily in English.
The most effective group size is 15-20 people; enough to allow for plenty of interaction with each other. However, we can accommodate up to 40 participants in a training session.
All levels of the organization can benefit from this course. When front-line leaders all the way to top executives work on their communication skills, the entire organization benefits. This course can help leaders and communicators of all levels understand how to better communicate with employees for increased understanding.
